How to use intricate dies in our cardmaking

Hello – it’s been a while!

Today I want to show you how easy it is to use intricate dies in our cardmaking. The Gorgeous Garden dies from the Stampin’ Up! annual catalogue are easily overlooked. These stand alone dies are both really lovely. The card below was one of my August class makes and this 5″ x 7″ card shows off the beautiful leaf die.

I start with a Thick Basic White base and then die cut a piece of Basic White before adding Old Olive with a blending brush to build up colour softly. Next an aperture was cut in a piece of Soft Sea Foam card using the largest Countryside Corners dies. A sentiment from the Layering Leaves stamp set is stamped in Old Olive on a pretty label from one of the Timeless Arrangements. Finally, for extra texture I stamped and punched some leaves, added a twine bow and iridescent rhinestones.

The next card was inspired by one of my lovely ladies that come to class and features the pretty floral die. Daffodil Delight and Old Olive ink was added to the die cut piece with blending brushes and highlights the gorgeous design. The twine I used is from my retired stash. You know, one of the hardest thing on these cards is where to put the labels without covering up too much for the intricate die cuts!

In the video which you can watch below, I show you these intricate die cuts in more detail and I promised to share the finished cards with you here. The first is very subtle and the coloured background hard to see in the video. Daffodil Delight was lightly added to a Thick Basic White base which softly highlights the intricate die cut. I punched velum leaves to add behind the sentiment label, adding more subtle texture.

The base for the next card is Fresh Freesia, which is one of my favourite colours. Using coloured cardstock really highlights the intricate die cut.
