Happy Sunday!
Today’s card is for the Global Design Project’s Theme Challenge #GDP351 and I’ve used Beautiful Shapes and Hues of Happiness from the Stampin’ Up! Annual Catalogue.
Our Inspiration
As soon as I saw the inspiration for this challenge the hexagons from the Beautiful Shapes dies and Hive 3D embossing folder sprang into my mind so knew I wanted to use them for my project. I wasn’t sure exactly where I was going when I started making the card so rather than make a video of a second version I filmed my creative process. If you click on the photo below you can watch me make the card.
Did you know you can emboss your designer series paper?
To use my chosen shape the background as well, the Hive 3D embossing folder was perfect as it adds so much lovely texture to the Hues of Happiness 12″ x 12″ designer series paper (dsp). Have you ever embossed your patterned papers? I think it works really well, especially in this instance. You have to be a bit careful if the paper you have is thin as the paper can sometimes crack.
If you ever have problems with cardstock or paper cracking in any of your embossing folders you can lightly mist with water to loosens the fibres.
Most of our dsp is double sided and I wanted to show both sides of the Hues of Happiness dsp as it’s really pretty. So I decided to make a frame for the hexagons made ith the Beautiful Shapes dies from white card. No-one would ever know that I die cut the white hexagon frames from the white layer before adding the embossed dsp. This dsp is one of my favourites from the Stampin’ Up! Annual Catalogue and you can see another simple card that I made featuring this paper by clicking here.
The flowers are trimmed (fussy cut) from another piece of the Hues of Happiness paper and were added as decoration to the shapes.
The inside is kept simple with a flower trimmed (also known as fussy cut) from more of the dsp. Both sentiments are from the Happiness Abounds stamp set.
After I finished filming I made a second card and this time I decided not to emboss the dsp because the pattern was busy enough. To make up for it I added some Gilded Flakes to parts of the frames, which looks lovely.
