Time for a Colour Challenge

Happy Sunday!

Today I’m playing along with another Global Design Project challenge and this week it’s time for a colour challenge. The fun and vibrant colour combination for #GDP349 is Tahitian Tide, Daffodil Delight and Parakeet Party. As usual the GDP Design Team have lots of lovely projects to inspire us.

It’s been an exciting couple of weeks!!

First the card I made a few weeks ago for #GDP347 got a #GDPspecialmention, which was so exciting. And then the card I entered into last week’s challenge #GDP348 was picked as one of the three winners! I am so grateful to the Design Team for choosing my card to be a #GDPwinner. Not only does that mean I can display the winners badge on my site (alongside the special mention badge) but I’ve also been grinning like a cheshire cat all week!! Congratulations to all the other winners and everyone who takes part in these challenges – the projects are so inspiring.

Back to this week’s challenge!

So for my card today, I chose to use the Hand-Penned Petals Stamp Set and Penned Flowers Dies. The great thing about a colour challenge is you can use any sets you have – you can let your imagination go wild. While creating the second card, I decided to send it to my father-in-law as he’s recovering from COVID. Luckily he hasn’t been too poorly! So I used a sentiment from Cup of Tea from the Tea Boutique suite in the Stampin’ Up! annual catalogue – take care of yourself seems appropriate.

I started with a thick basic white card base. Next I added a layer of daffodil delight with a top layer of basic white. To add texture to the top layer I would normally reach for an embossing folder but this time I decided to try something different.

Did you know you can use die cuts to create a pretty background?

Adding white die cuts to a white layer creates a really elegant background, in my humble opinion. To avoid getting in a sticky mess I used Adhesive Sheet. This effectively turns your die cuts into stickers and all you have to do is peel off the backing. I’m not sure what the right name is for this technique but it’s such a pretty effect.

Hand Penned Petals is a two step stamp set so you get an outline plus in fill stamps. On the first card, I stamped the outline in Crumb Cake or Sahara Sand (I can’t remember which!) and coloured the flowers and leaves with the three challenge colours several times so the colours are quite bright. To make the sentiment pop, I heat embossed in white on black card.

For the second version, I stamped the outline in Memento black and stamped off before using the challenge colours so the flowers and leaves have a softer look. Here they are side by side. Do you have a favourite? I love both but think the paler one just tops it!
