An easy gatefold birthday card for the men in your life

Hello

Today I want to show you how to make an easy gatefold birthday card for the men in your life. The first birthday card was one of my April class projects and is a homage to three of the colours that retired as part of our colour refresh – Mango Melody, Bermuda Bay and Pacific Point.

For both birthday cards I’m sharing today, I used the Biggest Wish stamp set. The Celebration tags that I used to make the candles in the first card have sadly retired but it would be quite easy to make your own candles. The card base is Pacific Point and the ink colours used were Mango Melody, Bermuda Bay and Pacific Point.

What is a Colour Refresh?

Every five years or so Stampin’ Up! does a colour refresh. That means the four core colour families (Neutrals, Brights, Subtles and Regals) are updated to take account of current trends. So some colours retire, old favourites return and new colours are added to the mix. If you would like to learn more and get an updated colour chart drop me a quick email to lynn@lynniecdesigns.co.uk and I’ll send you one.

Masculine birthday cards

I don’t know about you but I often struggle to make a masculine birthday card. Mostly because I tend to chose pretty floral and feminine stamps and dies. But I’m so happy I bought the He’s All That stamp set and co-ordinating dies. I can tell it’s going to be really helpful in making cards for lots of different occasions. For the second card I used three different blues: Azure Afternoon (new), Blueberry Bushel and Misty Moonlight (returning In-colours).

The inside is stamped with another of the sentiments from He’s All That stamp set. This would actually be a great sentiment for an anniversary or Valentine’s day card too. I often add patterned paper to the front of a gatefold card but here I added some cardstock that had been embossed with one of the three Basics 3D embossing folders
