Whale of a Time Suite – Stampin’ Up!

Hello and welcome to my blog

Today I’m sharing a few cards made with products from the delightful Whale of a Time Suite in the annual catalogue.  I was a bit late to the party with this one and am so happy I decided to buy the Whale Done Bundle (the Whale Done stamp set and Whale Builder Punch – if purchased together at the moment you can get a 10% discount), Whale of a Time 6″ x 6″ designer series paper and sequins.

The layout for my first card was shared by the talented Emma Goddard (aka Coastal Crafter) during one of her Card and a Cuppa Friday mornings a few weeks ago. I had been to one of Emma’s in person classes before but not made it to her Card and a Cuppa events so during lockdown last year I joined her weekly online sessions and my Friday mornings have become a highlight of my week. It is such a fun way to connect (via Zoom) with Emma and lots of other new crafting friends. Emma shares a layout and shows us how to make the card she’s designed and we all use the supplies we have to hand to create our own version. It’s lovely seeing the all the different versions and I get lots of inspiration.

I stamped on the right hand side of the larger white piece to create a background then added to the Pretty Peacock base.  I stamped the fish on the smaller white piece and before adding to the Pretty Peacock panel punched a label with the Label Me Fancy Punch then added the panel to the card with dimensionals. I next stamped the sentiment in Versamark ink on the label and heat embossed with White Emboss Powder. I added a piece of Coastal Cabana ribbon from the Playing With Patterns Ribbon Combo Pack with tear and tape before adding the label with dimensionals. The whale was punched from the dsp with the Whale Builder Punch and also added with dimensionals.

Products:

Stamps  Whale Done

Paper – Pretty Peacock, White, Whale of a Time dsp

Ink – Pretty Peacock, Melon Mango Granny Apple Green and Versamark

Tools – Whale Builder and Label Me Fancy punches

Accessories  -White Emboss Powder, Coastal Cabana Ribbon from the Playing With Patterns Ribbon combo pack

If you’ve visited my blog before (thank you) you may know that I love a fancy fold and I knew I wanted to make a tunnel card with this paper. The front is kept simple with a piece of Whale of A Time dsp. I next stamped the sentiment in Versamark the largest Layering Oval die cut from the inside panel.

Inside I created dimension with layers of card to make a tunnel using the Layering Oval Dies. After a fair bit of fussy cutting (all from the Whale Of A Time dsp) I glued the turtles, whales and fish on each layer. The background is another piece of the dsp. I added some Whale of A Time Sequins to look like bubbles.

I glued a piece of white card to the inside left so there’s plenty of space to write a message to the recipient. I stamped the sentiment and hearts from the Whale Done stamp set in Pretty Peacock.

The final card is another layout Emma showed us on Friday morning. The card she shared used some of the gorgeous Flower & Field dsp (which is free with an order of £45 during Sale-a-bration until end February) which I CASED on the day but afterwards was inspired to make a version using some of the Whale of A Time dsp.

I chose Pacific Point for the base to pick out the colour in one of the turtles – they are cute!  The base front is trimmed down and an extra piece of Pacific Point cut to create a flap.  I think this type of fold it’s called a joy fold.  Below is the view from the top so you can see the way it folds and opens. A piece of dsp is glued to the back of the base and the small front flap. Two pieces of White card are glued to the smaller pacific point. I used the label from the Fluttering Dies for the topper and stamped the sentiment in Pacific Point ink. The hearts are stamped off several times – I love the way we can get more than one colour from a single ink pad by stamping off. That panel was added with dimensionals and then I fussy cut the turtles and glued onto the flap. You need to be mindful of the location of the turtles on the left so the card can flap out easily (if that makes sense!).
