Global Design Project #GDP535 – Baby Shaker card

Hello, my crafty friends! 👋

This week’s theme at Global Design Project #GDP535 is all about babies, and I immediately thought of creating a sweet shaker card for a baby girl.

My colour palette came together straight away — white, Bubble Bath and Fresh Freesia — soft, delicate shades that feel perfect for welcoming a new arrival.

Creating a focal point

For the focal point, I used the Perennial Postage Dies to cut four postage-style squares from white cardstock. Before removing each piece from the die, I gently blended Bubble Bath ink into the centre using a blending brush. This left a crisp white edge around each square and a soft halo of colour in the middle — such a simple technique, but it creates beautiful definition.

Using the Mini Alphabet Dies, I cut the letters to spell B A B Y, adding one letter to each postage square. I then adhered the four squares across the front of the shaker element to create a clean, balanced focal design. For a subtle patterned background, I added a piece of Floral Impressions Designer Series Paper, so as not to overpower the design.

What is a shaker card?

A shaker card is a card with a clear window filled with items — usually little sparkly things — that move about when you shake the card … and that’s why we call it a shaker card! To make shaker cards, you need cardstock, foam strips are essential for creating the window with space for your shaker card contents. For the shaker card window itself, I used clear window sheets.

A few Iridescent Pearls Basic Jewels add that final bit of shimmer to the card front.

This design combines gentle colour blending, interactive detail and a little sparkle — perfect for celebrating a sweet baby girl.
