Creating a One Layer card with Extraordinary Flora stamp

Sometimes less really is more, and today’s card featuring the Extraordinary Flora stamp set is a perfect example of that.

A few weeks ago on my blog I shared a couple of cards featuring the Extraordinary Flora bundle along with the Extraordinary Flora washi tape. Since then, I’ve been having lots of fun using the stamp set on its own and creating a series of designs to really show just how versatile the stamp set is. I’ll be sharing more of these ideas, starting with this simple one layer card.

For today’s project I used a standard A6 Crumb Cake card base. I stamped the large floral image directly onto the card front using Pecan Pie ink, which gives a lovely soft contrast against the neutral background while still keeping the design grounded and earthy.

Before stamping, I applied a strip of masking paper across the centre of the card front. This creates a clean space for the sentiment and helps everything feel balanced without adding extra layers. Once the image was stamped, I removed the mask and white heat embossed the sentiment from the Fabulous Sayings stamp set, which was Stampin’ Up’s January Product of the Month. The white embossing really pops against the Crumb Cake cardstock and adds a touch of elegance.

Adding colour

To colour the florals, I reached for my watercolour pencils. When working on coloured cardstock, I always start with a white pencil before adding colour. This simple step makes such a difference — it helps the flowers and leaves stand out and keeps the colours bright rather than muted by the cardstock underneath.

To subtly frame the sentiment, I used a Pecan Pie Stampin’ Write Marker to draw a few lines above and below the embossed greeting. It’s a small detail, but it ties in beautifully with the stamped image and finishes the card without overpowering the design.

There’s no ribbon, no embellishments, and no extra layers here — just a clean, simple, single layer card that lets the stamp set shine. This is such a great style of card when you want something quick to make but still full of detail and impact.
