Make elegant birthday cards by repeat stamping and watercolor pencils

Hello

Do you like using watercolor pencils? Well today I will simply show you how easy it is to make elegant birthday cards by repeat stamping a large image and adding colour with watercolor pencils to those images to give a soft subtle look. My photography skills are poor, so you can’t see the beautiful glittery stamped images using a Wink of Stella brush instead of a Blender Pen to blend the watercolor and add glitter.

This 5″ x 7″ birthday card was in fact one of the projects made in my August 2024 class and features my favourite stamp set from the annual catalogue Layers of Beauty. I can tell you that my customers loved making these cards. In fact as we used watercolor pencils, they were able to choose their favourite colors to make them their own. What is repeat stamping

Repeat stamping is a simple way to create your own designer series paper by stamping the same image again and again. For these elegant birthday cards, I started by stamping the large floral image from the stamp set three times over a piece of basic white card and then fill in any spaces with the smaller stamps.

Watercolor pencils

There are many ways to add colour to our projects. As I’ve said before one of my favourites is with Stampin’ Blends, but for a class I often reach for my box of watercolor pencils. We have two assortment packs available of high-quality, smooth colour pencils in Stampin’ Up! colours and they are perfect for watercolouring stamped images like this. Assortment 1 has 13 colors and Assortment 2 has 10 pencils.

For my class projects I often make a tutorial for my YouTube channel for my customers to refer back to and see how they made projects.

In this video, you can see how easy these elegant birthday cards are to make. I did speed up the part where I coloured the images otherwise the video would have been a little longer! What colours would you use?
