How to make birthday cards with lots of texture

Happy Sunday!

Today I want to show you how to make birthday cards with lots of texture using die cuts, heat embossing and a 3D embossing folder. If you’ve followed me for a while you’ll know that one of my favourite techniques is heat embossing because it adds something special to a handmade card or project. The birthday card below was one of my April class projects.

For both cards I’m sharing today, I used the Queen Bee bundle from our January – May mini catalogue. The die set will sadly be retiring at the end of the month but you can still buy it through my online store at a reduced price of £15 (while stocks last) plus the stamp set at £22. Cheaper than buying them together as a bundle! You will still be able to purchase the stamp set as it’s carrying over. I think the bee stamp is so pretty especially when it’s heat embossed in gold!

New Annual Catalogue

This time of year is exciting for us demonstrators as we get a sneak peek of the new annual catalogue and have the opportunity to purchase some items before they go on sale to our customers. It is also a bit sad as we have to say goodbye to some of our favorite current products and colours.

My homage to retiring colours

The colours So Saffron, Pear Pizzazz, Blushing Bride and Rich Razzleberry will all be retiring so I wanted to use them in these birthday cards. The strip of black and white paper down the left hand side is from the All Together designer series paper pack and is a bargain at the moment as it’s in the Clearance Rack. However the 3D Hive embossing folder (retiring) has sold out in the UK so is no longer available.

I made this birthday card (fit for a queen) during my latest free YouTube tutorial which you can watch by clicking the photo above or the link later in this post. Look how gorgeous that bee is!!
