Have you ever used a sketch to help inspire you or would you like to learn how? On Friday night my lovely upline Emma Goddard organised a virtual team gathering. As well as chatting about what our favourite products are in the upcoming Jul – Dec mini catalogue (as demonstrators we get to see the catalogues early), Emma gave us a sketch to use for a craft a long. A sketch is a great starting point for a card design if you’re struggling with ideas.
The sketch actually reminded me of one of the cards from my March classes and the card I’m sharing today’s card was my take on the sketch and features the Count on Me stamp set and Sending Smiles Bundle which are both in the Annual Stampin’ Up! catalogue.
The card below is the one from my March card classes and features the In the Moment Stamp set from the annual catalogue. It’s the same layout but with a daffodil delight base and a melon mambo scalloped circle. I used the same pretty Gingham embossing folder for the background.
This stamp set comes with three lovely line drawings so I made a card with each of the images coloured them using blends. To make a change the sentiment (also from the In the Moment stamp set) is stamped and trimmed.

Basic White 10cm x 14.3cm
Basic White third of a sheet of A4 for stamping and die cutting

Designer Series Paper:
Hues of Happiness 3cm x 14.3cm

Tools and Adhesives:
Layering Circles dies, Gingham Embossing Folder, Blending Brushes, Paper Snips, Multipurpose Liquid Glue, Tear & Tape, Adhesive Sheets, Stampin’ Dimensionals
Accessories:
Stampin’ Blends – Crumb Cake, Daffodil Delight, Pool Party, Granny Apple Green, Basic Rhinestones. Pool Party Sheer Ribbon
Instructions:
- Cut and score card base
- Emboss basic white layer and add strip of dsp
- Add ribbon – I used two separate pieces – and glue to base
- Die cut circle, apply ink with blending brushes, add to scalloped circle and add to card with dimensionals
- Stamp kangaroo, colour with blends, fussy cut and add to circle with glue
- Apply adhesive sheet to Mossy Meadow and die cut, layer on white die cut and add to card
- Stamp sentiment, die cut and add to card
- Add basic rhinestones.
Here are the two cards together and you can see how I used the same sketch but by changing up the stamped image, paper and patterned paper it looks a little different. That’s the perfect thing about sketches you can interpret them in any way you like, they are there just to give you a starting point if you’re not sure where to start.
