How to make clean and simple cards with patterned paper

Happy Sunday!

Today I wanted to show you how to make clean and simple cards with patterned paper. I used some of the gorgeous Hues of Happiness 12″ x 12″ designer series paper and the Happiness Abounds stamp set from the new Stampin’ Up! annual catalogue to make these pretty cards.

This was one of the cards we made at card class this month and it was a great hit. The simple design and layout can easily be turned from landscape to portrait and is a great way to use some of the pretty patterned paper we all have in our “collection”. An added bonus is they’re really quick to make and you can get 12 strips of patterned paper from one sheet of 12″ x 12″. The gorgeous flowers and leaves are fussy cut from another sheet of this fabulous paper pack – almost too pretty to cut up right!

Inside is decorated simply with a sentiment and flower stamped in Memento and coloured with a watercolour pencil and I used a Wink of Stella brush to smooth out the colour, which adds a lovely sparkle. As an avid crafter I often find it hard to make clean and simple cards but I’m really happy with the way this turned out. A few extra embellishments have been placed on the front of the card as it got a few tiny marks on it during the classes.

The second card is pretty in pink – hard to believe it’s cut from the same sheet of designer series paper. There are lots of lovely sentiments in the Happiness Abounds stamp set so instead of making another birthday card this is a congratulations card. I used the Melon Mambo watercolour pencil for the flower.
