How to make a 3D Pop Up cube card

Hello and welcome to my blog,

Today I’m sharing a fun 3D pop up cube christmas card made with some new products. The super cute Penguin Playments designer series paper that you will be able to get for FREE (with a qualifying order) during Sale-a-bration, which runs from 3 August to 30 September 2021, while stocks last. The sentiments are from Penguin Place stamp set which has a co-ordinating penguin builder punch from the mini catalogue also available from 3 August. I hope you love it as much as I do.

Those that know me, know how much I love a fun fold especially if it’s not too fiddly.  This type of card has been around for a while, and I recently watched video’s by Sam at Mixed Up Craft, Barry at Mitosu Crafts and Jo Blackman to learn how to make them. The first one I made was a larger version (5″ x 7″) for my niece Shelby who turns 18 this week (I’ll share photo’s of her card after her big day).

This card is a smaller version and fits into a standard C5 envelope. I’ve kept it clean and simple with only one layer of dsp but it’s very easy to add additional layers if you want to.

Here’s a close up of the front panel – cute imho!  I used one of the fabulous stitched labels from the Hippo & Friends dies.  The polar bear and penguin are fussy cut from a sheet of Penguin Playmates designer series paper..

The panel and sentiment both pop up and in the video I show you two different ways of adding them to the card.

I think this designer series paper is going to be really popular.

I die cut four snowflakes using one of the So Many Snowflakes dies from the Annual catalogue to decorate the top and front of the two cubes.

Above you can see the card with the cubes flattened so you can see all four snowflakes and below the cubes are folded up so you can see how the card fits into a C5 envelope.

Because I used Basic White for the base there’s plenty of space on the back panels to write a message to the recepient.

Supplies to make the card and instructions-

Stamps

Penguin Place

Cardstock:

Thick Basic White – 15cm x 21cm, 5cm x 21cm (x2)

Basic White – half sheet A4 for labels and sentiment.

Penguin Playmates designer series paper – 4.7cm x 4.7cm (x8), 4.7cm x 9.7cm (x2), 4.7cm x 14.7cm (x2)

Inks:

Fresh Fressia, Misty Moonlight

Tools:

Hippo & Friends dies, So Many Snowflakes dies, Mini Stampin’ Cut & Emboss Machine, Adhesive Sheets, Multipurpose Glue, Blending Brushes, Paper Snips, Paper Trimmer

Instructions:

Trim the Thick Basic White to 21cm x 25cm. Score on the short side at 5cm, 10cm, 15cm and 20cm. Rotate and cut at 15cm. Cut the smaller piece at 5cm leaving 2 bits the same size.  Fold and reinforce all score lines. On the tall piece glue dsp to the inside. Glue tab to make a tall cube. Glue dsp to inside of the two smaller pieces. Glue tabs to make two smaller cubes. Add dsp to the front panels of tall cube. Add dsp to top and front of the smaller cubes. Glue the cubes to the front (watch the video it is easier to see than for me to explain it!!).  Die cut two labels using the Hippo & Friends dies. Add Fresh Fressia ink with a blending brush to the larger label. Fussy cut two characters from the designer series paper and add to label.  Stamp the sentiment in Misty Moonlight ink, trim and glue to label. Stamp the other sentiment on the smaller label. Create fasteners ( in the video I show you two different ways) and glue in place. For the small label I used a piece of Basic White cut at 1cm x 9.5cm. For the larger label I used to small punched circles. Add adhesive sheet to a piece of Basic White and die cut 4 snowflakes and add to card.
