Today’s simple birthday cards were created for this week’s Global Design Project theme challenge. May is a busy month for birthdays and I needed to add to my stash so the timing for me to play along with this challenge was perfect.
This week’s Global Design Project Theme Challenge is Birthday.
I purchased the Painted Poppies stamp set recently and thought this was a great excuse to have a play – I decided to keep the cards simple. The sentiment is from the Peaceful Moments stamp set which includes a good variety of sentiments in a lovely mix of fonts. I stamped the flowers in Sahara Sand Ink and to colour the flowers I pulled out my watercolour pencils – Gorgeous Grape and White for the first card and Real Red and White for my prototype. The Bricks & Mortar 3D embossing folder provides a lovely bit of texture at the bottom of the panel. I added Sahara Sand Ink to this strip with one of the blending brushes to make it slightly darker and help the bricks stand out. I tied the linen thread round the panel before adding it to the card base with dimensionals. The sentiment label was also added with dimensionals and you can see how I made the coloured border round the label in my free video tutorial below.
For both cards the base is Thick Basic White measuring 10.5cm x 29.7cm, scored at 14.8cm. The Gorgeous Grape and Real Red layers measure 10.2cm x 14.5cm and the Sahara Sand 9.9cm x 14.2cm. The strip of Sahara Sand is 3cm x 14.2cm.
