I hope you are feeling well.
Today, I’m sharing a pretty faceted box / ornament. I received one from a lovely new crafting friend Anne and couldn’t wait to find out how they were made. Tell me I’m not the only one that picks boxes apart to see how they are constructed? I also searched online and discovered that Sam of Mixed Up Crafts made these back in 2017. I think they will make a pretty tree decoration or a gift box as they can easily fit a small gift or sweets. They’re quite difficult to photograph but here goes!
The one below I made as a little thank you gift for a customer
This is the template I used:-
- Cut cardstock @ 15cm x 25cm (6¼ ″ x 10½ ″)
- Score on the long side @ 3cm, 6cm, 9cm, 12cm, 15cm, 18cm, 21cm, 24cm (1¼″, 2 ½″, 3 ¾″, 5″, 6 ¼″, 7 ½″, 8¾ ″, 10″)
- Score on the short side @ 3cm, 6cm, 9cm, 12cm (1¼ ″, 2½ ″, 3¾ ″, 5″)
- Cut 16 pieces of designer series paper @ 2.7cm x 2.7cm (1⅛″ x 1⅛″)
- Cut ribbon @ 24cm (9½″)
- Trim as below. The dots on the top row are where you punch ⅛” hole.
- Mark the middle of the 1st, 3rd, 5th and 7th squares in the 2nd row at the top then score between middle and each corner (see triangles above) – repeat on 4th row marking at the bottom – this creates the faceted sides.
- Reinforce all the score lines.
- Add the designer series paper squares marked with a *
- Add adhesive to the tab on the right hand side, fold card over to connect both sides.
- Fold in the 4 bottom tabs and glue. I used Tear and Tape
- Knot ribbon and thread through 4 top tabs to close box
