I had intended to share more cards featuring the So Sentimental stamp set and Sweetly Stitched dies from Stampin’ Up! today but wanted to show you how I made these two cards instead.
I don’t know about you but when I cut mats and layers for cards, I always end up with thin strips of card. Of course I hate throwing them away – I reckon I’m a collector but my hubby says I’ve got hoarding tendancies 😂 you never know when something will come in handy eh! This is my pot of strips – I keep larger pieces too …..
Anyway, while prepping for my February classes, I had an idea about using the strips of whisper white for a cool background for cards. The strips are handy for sentiments but it was easy to add colour. So using inks from the Brights collection (Poppy Parade, Melon Mambo, Mango Melody, Daffodil Delight, Granny Apple Green, Pacific Point and Gorgeous Grape) I added colour by dragging the ink pads across the strips. I plan to use up my strips of coloured cardstock in a similar way
I did one colour a time and used a separate piece of scratch paper for each – I got a bit messy but I’m so happy with the result – I do love rainbows.
I added glue to a piece of copier paper cut @ 10.5cm x 14.8cm and then added the strips at an angle as you can see below. I cut off the excess and kept going until I had covered the whole piece.
I used my retired Large Letter dies (but you can use whatever you have) to cut the word from the background so I can use the background on one card and the letters on another – isn’t it great when you get two cards from one piece.
Both card bases are thick whisper white cut @ 14.8cm x 21cm scored @ 10.5cm. On the first, I glued the background in place with multipurpose liquid glue and diecut each letter five times from whisper white, glued these together and then glued them in the spaces the original letters were cut from. The hearts are from the Stitched Labels dies and I white heat embossed the word “sending” on a scrap of basic black – the word is part of a stamp from the FREE (with an order of £45 during Sale-a-bration) Sending You Thoughts stamp set.
It’s hard to see but I added wink of stella to the hearts to make them sparkle and the word sending is popped up with a dimensional.
The rainbow letters are the focal point on my second card and are added to a piece of whisper white cut @ 10cm x 14.3cm from which the letters are die cut for the first card. The layer was embossed with the Subtles embossing folder before being glued onto the base.
To make the letters stand out I cut and layer them from coloured card – another rainbow. A few basic rhinestones add a bit sparkle.
