How to create reverse eclipse cards

Happy Sunday folks!

I’m writing this on Saturday as it is my birthday today and I will be out celebrating with my ever patient hubby and parents.

On Wednesday evening I met up with some lovely crafting friends (the Paper Mates) for our monthly get together and did a shoe box swap.

What’s a shoe box swap, I hear you ask? Well, each person brings all of the supplies needed to make a card… and packs it all in a shoe box (other boxes can be used)! In the box is a sample of the finished card, pre-cut card stock and all the stamps, ink and accessories needed to make it. Quick and easy cards are best but if a card has a different technique or tricky part, people sometimes include directions.

There are a few different ways to set up a shoe box swap but we stayed in their seats and the shoe boxes were passed around the room. I forgot my ink pad and sequins – luckily our host had the same colour ink pad so we used hers! (Thanks Victoria.)

Here’s my card. The base is Smoky Slate cut @ 14.9cm x 21cm scored at 10.5cm and the stamped Whisper White panel cut @ 6.5cm x 14.9cm is layered on Blueberry Bushel cut @ 7cm x 14.9cm.  I used the Stampin’ Trimmer to score three lines in the top right hand and bottom left hand corner just to add a bit of interest. The white panel was stamped with Blueberry Bushel using the lovely floral image from the Wood Words stamp set. The Large Letters Framelits were used to die cut JUST from the panel. I wanted to change it up a little so glued the letters to the blue layer and raised the stamped panel with dimensional. Before adding the panel to the base, the sentiment was stamped in Blueberry Bushel. Metallics Sequins add the finishing touch.

Eclipse cards are very popular, where the die cuts are raised so I call this technique reverse eclipse – let me know if it’s called something different?

The next card has a base of Thick Whisper White and the panel is Call Me Clover (same sizes as above). The stamped layer is cut slightly smaller @ 6.5cm x 14.4cm so you can see the colour on all four sides of the panel.

The final card base is Powder Pink and the panel and ink used is another new In-Color Lovely Lipstick. I wanted to make a good luck card so used the Labeler Alphabet set to stamp GOOD on a strip of whisper white. This stamp set is so useful for personalising cards and projects.

Here they are all together. You can squeeze five letter words on to this size of card but four work best. Longer words should be made on a DL size card base.

Here’s a video of how I made the last card. Leave me a comment to let me know what you think and if you haven’t already please subscribe to my channel as I try to post a video every week.
